Zelie Kūliaikan'uu Duvauchelle

Donation protected
To all of Zelie's beloveds,
Zelie Kūliaikanu'u Duvauchelle passed away peacefully at home on the morning of October 9th, 2024. We had the gift of 6 weeks together after her diagnosis and everyday was a blessing filled with laughter, tears, stories, fish and poi, music, family visits, and many friends from near and far visiting every day.

Zelie was very much at peace with her decision to die at home, where she was able to host the scores of people who came by and called on the phone daily, bearing gifts of food, good company, and who had the chance to express their love, reminisce, and talk story for hours. She never wavered from her decision to embrace her final weeks without any medical interventions, and frequently reinforced this acceptance by talking frankly of her death with family and friends over the six weeks. She daily expressed her gratitude for a life well-lived and her deep gratitude for the end-of-life care provided at home. We are so grateful for the compassionate care and assistance from Maui Hospice.

Zelie was especially happy to be in her gardens, the food forest, and in her beautiful shaman's studio surrounded by her art and musical instruments, where the bird-song floated alongside the laughter helping carry the sadness away. She was a warrior to the end, a shaman, a spiritual being who followed this journey with intent, having no fear of dying, and often reassuring us that she had 'plenty work' to do from the other side and would visit us all frequently! One of the favorite things she said to us was "So, I'm really going to die, I think in a few days..." Then she paused and whispered "You know what? I'm kind of excited."

Zelie spoke profoundly of her many teachers often over this time, with tears in her eyes, as she recognized how their guidance impacted her life, and in all the ways prepared her for this journey or journeys. She told us again and again "I'm so grateful in this life to have been born Hawaiian, and to be born into the Hawaiian culture at this time."

While Zelie was a Moloka'i wahine through and through she was also a person who could bridge between worlds and cultures, and who brought her ho'oponopono teachings, chanting, music, and showed true aloha to everyone she met.

Mahalo for being a part of Zelie's life, for supporting her through these last weeks, and for simply being part of her life's journey. We miss her so much already, and are taking time to be with our grief.

We will leave this open for a while so we can send additional messages to the group about her Celebration of Life, and other special dates and times so you can tune in.

Aloha friends, family and Beloveds,
We are here with heavy hearts to let you know that Zelie Kūliaikanu'u Duvauchelle is just beginning hospice for a brain tumor. She has chosen no further medical interventions for lots of good reasons, and we begin the hospice journey this week. Those of you who know her understand that she traverses realms with ease, and we are thankful that she so far is in no pain, still with us a good part of the time, but every day is a new reality. We have an abundance laughter and tears, beautiful moments of appreciation, and plenty of "what a wild ride this earth-walk has been" conversations. Zelie is wandering through memories of her rich and beautiful life, that so many of you have shared. We have entered into the sacred space of transition and death, spirits are present and calling, and we are reaching out for financial help to carry us through.

Zelie touched many of us in profound ways, and we all know how she masterfully weaved spontaneous and infectious fun and laughter in her healing presence. Her music, chanting, ritual, ho'oponopono, full-to-the-brim lust for life, and journeys to many worlds shaped her being. That wonderful being is making her exit, and we humbly ask that you join us with your prayers and stories. If you can donate to this Go Fund Me to support us through this journey we can all breathe a little more easily and simply tend to her through this time out of time.

Our fundraising goal is $50,000, and of course any amount including very small donations will help us enormously. We will continue to update you through this Go Fund Me site.

Mahalo for your kokua - thank you so much for caring and helping, and joining this circle of love.
