Our dear Candy Apples (Genevieve Billingsley Kralis) is in need of support due to some ongoing health issues, the loss of her car, and financial hard times resulting from a recent instance of identity theft.
Candy is a two-time breast cancer survivor. She currently works as nurse tech at a local hospital and is a Red Cross volunteer who was one of the first to fly to New York in the aftermath of 9/11. She is both a resource and a caregiver for friends struggling through cancer. In addition, she's a fabulous burlesque performer, a mother of three, a long-time student of geology, and a sassy badass that exudes sweetness and light.
Recently Candy lost the full use of her hands and arms due to the ongoing recovery from having a double mastectomy a few years ago. She's had increasingly limited mobility and a drastic loss of sensation for over the last two weeks. Now she is unable to work and has run out of sick leave. The MRI and CT results are inconclusive and while more tests are scheduled, the doctors don't have any answers yet.
Candy is currently applying for short term disability, but in the meantime needs some funds to cover immediate expenses. She recently had to unexpectedly move to a new place then was hit by identity theft which cleaned out her bank account. Right before the move, her car died and with limited use of her arms, she's now reliant on cabs and public transportation.
Between the physical stuff and the financial issues, she could really use some love from the community, so we are asking you to donate on her behalf. Funds will go towards rent, bills, and expenses while further testing continues. If short term disability is approved, it should help, but it usually only covers 30%-40% of one’s take-home pay. Any additional funds will go towards covering needed expenses.
Candy is an amazing person full of giggly joy and kindness. Please consider helping her financially during this tough time. Any support you can send would be greatly appreciated.
