Supplies for Ugandan Orphanage & Animal Sanctuary
Donation protected
As of 2019, there were an estimated 15,000 orphaned and homeless children ( aged between 7 and 17 in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, which remains one of the poorest countries in the world. In 2019/2020, 12.3 million people (30.1% of the population) lived below the poverty line of U.S. $1.77 per person per day (Uganda Bureau of Statistics, 2021). To put it simply, the average monthly income in Uganda is less than $2 per adult. That’s not enough for families to purchase a loaf of bread, nonetheless pay for school supplies, clothing, or medicine for their children. That’s why it’s no surprise Uganda has such an overwhelming number of orphaned children, and homeless animals.
In an effort to provide a refuge for the orphaned children and animals of Kampala, our friend Kalanzi Vincent founded Vegan Orphans Support Organization, a non-profit, privately run orphanage that doubles as an animal sanctuary. The orphanage is a safe haven in the heart of the capital city, where ongoing aid and supportive services are desperately needed. The refuge was developed so orphaned children would have a safe place to call home, and where their medical care, food and educational needs would be met. But, resources are very limited in Kampala, food is extremely expensive, keeping growing children clothed is a constant struggle, and just one bag of dog food is over $70. Kalanzi and his team desperately need our help!
The space doubles as an animal rescue/sanctuary, wherein the orphaned children learn and practice vegan principles. There are currently 30 children who call this very special place their home, as well as dozens of animals saved from situations of abuse, starvation, disease, injuries, or abandonment. It’s a huge endeavor, taking in so many innocent souls, and offering them a chance to know love, safety and hope. Kalanzi and his team are truly doing God’s work.
When we first began speaking with the earth angels at Vegan Orphans Support Organization, we were so touched by the kids smiling faces and the warmth in their eyes. We were left feeling like we just had to do whatever we could to help them. All donations are going directly to the orphanage.
