Supporting blind women in India

Hello, my name is Anika Rastogi, and I am a student in the United States. I want to raise money for the NAB India Centre for Blind Women. This money would help pay for research on disability as well as employment-based training for blind women and girls in India.

The NAB Centre for Blind Women is a nonprofit organization that provides free skill-based training to visually impaired women in order to help them gain employment. They help to empower women by training them with life skills that will make them more independent. The NAB India Centre for Blind Women’s vision is “To change the status of blind women in India by providing rehabilitation, training, education, guidance, and dignity in the lives of thousands of visually impaired girls and women.”

As a young woman, I believe it is essential for women to gain a proper education to sustain themselves independently. Blind women and girls are often deprived of a proper education and job opportunities solely because of the fact that they are visually impaired. The total population of Blind Women in India is estimated at 15 million, and 99% of them have no access to any form of education. This is something that is in dire need of addressing and the NAB India Centre for Blind Women does just that. Many blind women and even small girls in India are considered burdens by their families, but the NAB India Centre for Blind Women welcomes these women with open arms. They provide a home for these women who have been cast away from society and thrown into poverty. These women and girls have so much potential and are an integral part of our society. The NAB India Centre for Blind teaches them both modern and contemporary professional skills/crafts which help them rediscover themselves and give them a new lease of life.

With even just a small donation, the NAB India Centre for Blind Women will be able to help empower more women and girls. They will be able to fund more research and help women raise their voices against injustices. Donations will go towards providing free residential stay for women, employment-based training, counseling sessions, scholarships for blind students seeking higher education, and even exposure trips to help those at the Centre understand all aspects of the world around them. It is important for all women and girls to have the opportunity of quality education and with your help, the NAB India Centre for Blind Women can extend this service to even more women and young girls.
