On February 27th in the middle of the night, my mother had severe pains in her shoulders and throat and was unable to fall back asleep. My dad got her to the ER and they diagnosed her with a heart attack and needing quadruple bypass surgery. Within 5 days my mom had her artery in her neck cleared and the bypass performed. She was then moved to the ICU. She didn’t come out of the surgery well and had to have a balloon pump, stent placed in her leg, a feeding tube, and oxygen. She also experienced a stroke at some point and major ICU delerium. She was discharged to St. Ann’s Skilled Nursing Facility on March 21st. The facility hasn’t been able to rehabilitate her. She is facing medical issues with her lower extremities and with her cognitive health. Both of these issues are being addressed with specialists. The insurance company claims she has not shown progress and have decided to discharge her this Friday. Rather than appeal, our family has decided to bring our mother home. We are hopeful she will improve surrounded by the ones that love her.
My parents selflessly give to all. They would never ask for anything. Our family is very concerned about what is to come and how medical bills will start piling up. I’ve created a go fund me to hopefully ease some of the financial burdens. We appreciate whatever you are able to do. All in God’s time and plan.
