Supporting Cerise Handspiker and Family

Cerise, a strong and healthy 7-year old competitive gymnast, had a small fall on Dec. 23rd, which brought her to X-ray on Dec. 24th. Shockingly the X-ray revealed a lesion on her arm bone. The family was immediately sent to Sick Kids for further investigation, where they spent four days admitted over Christmas. Cerise endured many tests, scans, MRI's and finally an open biopsy surgery. Unfortunately those results confirmed a diagnosis of Osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. Cerise has since had a surgery to install a port that is used to administer chemo and bloodwork, and has just started her first round of chemotherapy as an outpatient, with home care nurses visiting daily. She will have two five-week rounds of chemo, after which, a very challenging surgery on her arm will be performed. Post- surgery she will continue with five more months of chemo, a total of eight to nine months of treatment. She will be followed by cancer teams for the rest of her life. Rocky and Glynis really appreciate all of the support and help from their friends, family and community as they navigate through this long and difficult journey. 

The kind donations will be used to help pay for the little things that add up such as hospital parking, having to eat meals at the hospital etc.  Glynis has had to take a leave of absence from her job to be with Cerise which has resulted in a decrease in her wages so these donations help to take the pressure off a little bit.
