SUPPORTING CHARLIEE SALISBURY

Charliee Sue Salisbury is a happy girl. She finds delight in everything and loves nothing more than to sing, go down the slide in the park in our area near her house and spend time with her family and absolutely adores her dog Nala.

Charliee was having a wonderful day , just like any other normal day for Charliee and her Family .Charliee spoke to her Auntie Emma that morning and told her that she’d eaten her ‘favourite breakfast ever’, and how she was ‘so excited’ to be going to the park with all her favourite people and Nala her dog. She laughed as she went down the tube slide that afternoon in our local park and was still smiling when she reached the bottom, straight into the waiting arms of her Daddy. This was the moment mum and dad knew something was wrong. This was the moment Charliee and her family was about to face an awful tragedy .Charliee’s smile only lifted one side of her face, and as she tried to stand, she collapsed in the middle of the park .As Charliee was raced to the hospital a terrifying few hours later revealed that Charliee , who is only 7 years old, had had a stroke, and that there was a large blood clot in her brain. The amazing surgeons at London Hospital tried 12 times to remove it, but with no luck. In the early hours of that morning, another surgeon from GOSH was called in to remove a third of Charliee skull as her brain was dangerously swollen. The next 24 hours were critical. This is not Charliee’s first surgery. As a child with Down Syndrome she has always faced challenges, and at 2 years old she had open heart surgery to rectify a condition that is not uncommon in Down syndrome children. ‘Cheeky Charliee’, she became known by the nurses, bounced back and continued to thrive, entering mainstream school and becoming know for her boisterous personality and is loved and known in our community .In the last 12 months it was discovered that Charliee is deaf in one ear and has cataracts in both eyes. Nevertheless, she threw herself into life and found joy each day, making us laugh with her antics and loving personality, she touches the hearts of so many people .After surgery Charliee remained asleep for 4 days with family & friends anxiously waiting.

On 14th February Charliee woke up and is now out of ICU but will remain in GOSH for the foreseeable future. The clot on Charliees brain remains and the repeated attempts to remove it have caused severe damage to the right side of her brain. At this moment Charliee is unable to speak and barely makes any sound. She is unable to move the left side of her body and is being fed through a tube. She recognises her family and tries to reach for them with her right hand but this is also very heartbreaking for the family .
Family and GOSH don’t know what the future looks like, but know it will be different and difficult on both Charliee and her family .
The challenges that Charliee would already face have just got a lot bigger .

As a member of our community and a family friend , I have created this page to help support both Charliee and her family in this difficult time .
I am calling on , family . Friends , colleagues ,our community and people who are willing to help support the our beautiful little Charlie .
I’m am trying to raise money for the Salisbury’s
Whether that to be help towards adapting their home (at the moment there’s no way charliee could have a bedroom upstairs), buying any equipment she may need, or keeping her stimulated and happy. To take any financial strain and pressure of the family in this absolute tragedy and very long road ahead .
We will know more as time goes on and will continuously update this page as we know more.
I have had permission from the family to share this.

Any donation is helpful and we will be truly grateful.
