Supporting Chris (Hyungtak) and his Family
Donation protected
On Tuesday, January 28th 2025, Chris Song suffered a life changing ski accident. Chris was transported to Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) via air ambulance where he underwent multiple surgeries. His injuries include multiple broken ribs, a broken left shoulder and an extremely serious back injury which has resulted in paralysis from the waist down.
Chris will remain at VGH for approximately two months while doctors monitor his recovery. Once doctors are satisfied with his progress he will be transferred to GF Strong in Vancouver to begin rehabilitation therapy which could take upwards of a year. Chris will never walk again, and healing will take years. His life and the life of his family will never be the same.
Anyone who has ever met Chris know how caring, supportive, and welcoming he is to everyone in our community. His students in our Snow and Bike Schools only speak positively about their experiences particularly how patient he is when teaching. Chris takes his time to guide and instruct each student at the level they are at with encouragement and positive feedback.
Chris and his wife Jieun have been a part of the Whistler Community for nine years. Their two young children are growing up in our Mountain Town attending school, learning to ski, bike, play soccer, do gymnastics, hiking, and so much more. It is our goal to ensure the Song Family can continue to enjoy this wonderful place we all call home while also supporting Chris in his long road to recovery.
We in Whistler know how lucky we are to live, work and play in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Whistler has an amazing, supportive community, and the Song family needs your help. As a community this is our opportunity to offer Chris and his family the support and help that he would not hesitate to offer to anyone else.
We are fundraising to support Chris and his family in costs associated with the purchase of a wheelchair and creating an accessible environment for when Chris can finally come home to Whistler. Additionally, funds raised will also go to supporting his wife Jieun and their two children by ensuring they have the most basic of necessities such as shelter, food and clothing.
This horrendous accident has changed the lives of the Song Family forever. As a community, please consider supporting this family with a donation.
Further fundraising details will be posted in the near future.
