Supporting Claudia Starr Carter

Dear Reader,

As you may or may not be aware, our beloved leader, family member, artisan, and friend to so many Claudia Starr Carter has been battling terminal Pancreatic cancer these last few months. Claudia is and has always been a warrior, fighting this battle while leading with strength, love, and everlasting compassion. Born in San Jose California, Claudia has dedicated her life working as a career advocate for victims of domestic violence, serving as an Art Curator for the Northwest Black History Month Exhibit, and serving on the local Vancouver Washington NAACP Executive Committee just to name a few of her courageous successes. The biggest success is her ability to love unconditionally even through some of the hardest moments of her life. Claudia has overcome so many battles and was able to become a teacher in love and compassion. We all grew up knowing we can always count on Claudia to give us the love some of us struggled to give to ourselves. The type of love that can transform your life for the better and elevate your spirit. No matter what battles Claudia has faced, she continues to be the beacon of light in so many of our lives.

Many people may know Claudia because of her captivating ceramic art pieces that carry so much historical value. Each piece created not only tells a unique story about Claudia’s soul and journey in the eyes of an African-American woman in America, but they are also telling the untold stories and celebrating the stories that led us to freedom. Claudia Carter is the winner of the Clark College Arts Foundation award in 2016, upon her receiving this award Claudia stated, “I try to blend the past and the future.”

While we are saddened and heartbroken that we have limited time with Claudia, we will continue to embrace her light which shines brighter than ever before. As we move forward, we are asking that if you are able, or would like to, please assist us in raising funds for Claudia. Before Claudia’s diagnosis, she was working at the Boys and Girls club. Due to the severity of the illness, Claudia has been unable to work. We are asking that if you are able, or would like to donate, just click on the donate button and donate whatever you can. If you are not able to donate do not forget you can still leave messages and comments. Thank you for your time, we sincerely appreciate you reading this letter.

Be well,

The family of Claudia Starr Carter
