Supporting Displaced Families in Afghanistan
Donation protected
My heart has been going out to refugees all over the world but it is the situation of displaced families and children in Afghanistan that has particularly spoken to me. The picture above (from the UNHCR website) captures a little of their pain: children wide-eyed, looking lost, without hope, without a future.
The sheer need of the Afghan people, with the graphic images of desperate people trying to flee after the Taliban take-over, has reached us all, tearing at our hearts. Also, I have a son-in-law, who for a long time now has had a close connection with the country and has known firsthand the desperate plight to which so many have been exposed.
I have other connections with Afghanistan too. Locally, I know wonderful Afghan tradesmen who do such excellent work with leather. And then there are the lovely Afghan rugs which we have enjoyed in our home for many years. So, for lots of reasons, some deeply moving, others more mundane, I feel close to Afghanistan.
Now, I want to help just a little bit beyond the giving that we otherwise do. Turning 70 seems a good time to create the opportunity for that little extra bit. I will be very grateful if you could recognise this occasion by supporting displaced families and children in Afghanistan. All donations will go to the UNHCR Afghanistan Emergency appeal to support those affected by this humanitarian crisis.
