Uber driver attacked- Supporting Gabe Mackinnon

On March 13th, Gabe was the victim of a brutal attack in Portland. The details can be difficult to hear. If this is how you are being notified, please accept my apologies.

Gabe was approached, by a woman in a parking lot asking for help. As he was trying to talk to her about how he could be helpful to her, two armed men threw her out of the way, then demanded he gets out of his car. One of the men struck Gabe across the forehead with the gun. As Gabe feared for his life, he knew he had to try to get away. He was stunned by the blow but found strength and was able to act quickly enough to get his car into reverse. As he pulled away, they both opened fire on him.

Gabe had been shot at least 4 times from 2 feet away. We feel so very fortunate that he is alive and with us today. Having been shot twice in the chest and at least 2 or more times in his left arm, he was dazed and conscious but knew enough to get himself away from his attackers. With the assistance of an On-star operator, he drove to the nearest hospital for help. Once he was stable, he was transferred to a trauma center where he was admitted to treat his wounds.

Astonishingly, while tearing through his body, the 2 bullets that hit him in the chest missed all major blood vessels and organs before exiting. He was shot once directly in the center of his chest, the bullet exited near his right armpit. The second shot to the chest hit him just below the left clavicle and exited through his back, directly next to his upper spine.

After 2 days in the hospital, Gabe went into surgery to repair some of the damage from the broken bones in his left arm. He has an undetermined amount of nerve damage throughout his entire left arm still.

He is now out of the hospital, surrounded by friends and family while he recovers. This senseless act of violence has put Gabe and his daughter in an unimaginable circumstance with a mountain of unexpected expenses.
