Jennifer Gypsy Keim passed June 27th after a two-year battle with cancer. She fought with everything she had, through four operations and reports of wellness that descended into more illness. Throughout it all she never lost her care and concern for her two daughters, her husband, her pets, and her friends both old and new.
If there was ever a person more fun and who loved life more, I have not met them.
I was her first husband many years ago, and when our little girl Hilary died suddenly at 2 years old in 1991, Gypsy was just 24. But while I descended into months of depression and bewilderment, she held us together long enough for me to recover enough to move on. That’s the kind of selfless person Gypsy was, she always put others needs before her own. She moved on and eventually remarried and had two little girls, but had to bring them up by herself, as their father was not present. She struggled as a single mom, but as we always kept in touch I was honored to have her radiant spirit in my life, and her two little girls to be their Dad. Throughout the ensuing years Gypsy parented these girls to become the fine young ladies they are now, while always struggling financially and living paycheck to paycheck. Gypsy’s daughters are devastated by the loss of their “best friend” with whom they were always in daily contact about every facet of their lives.
She changed her name legally to Gypsy in honor of her wish to be able to play and perform her music, which was her first love. Regardless of her other responsibilities, which were always met, she managed to have a small band and rehearse most Saturdays when they were available. I can still hear her joyous voice ringing out across the neighborhood and see folks stopping to listen in front of the small apartment complex where she and the girls spent their formative years.
The wonderful songs she wrote and recorded can be heard at

Her husband of the last two years stood beside her everyday of her illness. They married the first time in her hospital room before her first operation, in what stands for me as the most loving act I have ever witnessed by a man in love. Their second marriage, when hope was eternal and recovery seemed in sight, was a beautiful ceremony on a cliff in their jewel of a community in Northern California. The pictures I saw of her face during those moments told me that she had never been happier and I prayed she would live to see her life out in her new world.
But this was not to be. Instead her cancer returned with a vengeance, as only this horrible illness can.
The medical insurance she always made sure she had for herself and the girls had reached its limit many months before. Covid had devastated the small business she and her husband had a part of, and the work the girls were pursuing evaporated as did that of so many in this crisis.
This gofundme is to see that she leaves this earth with her accounts settled, her children secured and her business stabilized for the future of her husband and children. Your blessings will be given to the memory and life of a Saint of a mother, a true friend to all in need, and the knowledge that her legacy will live on.
