A beloved team member of Division Street Merchants, Hugo Garcia, is currently battling a severe eye injury and complications with his recovery that could result in him losing his eye if not given the proper care. Hugo has been an integral part of Division Street Merchants for 17 years and has tirelessly dedicated himself to both the organization and the community at large. His unwavering commitment and positive attitude have left an indelible mark. Most recently, Hugo has delivered meals to first responders and health care workers during Covid-19, beautified the neighborhood during numerous neighborhood clean-ups, and volunteered his time during community events like The Gold Coast Neighbor Association’s Evening on Astor, The North Dearborn Association's Joy of Toys, and The Chicago Police Department’s National Night Out.

Due to this unforeseen accident, Hugo and his family find themselves facing not only physical pain but also emotional and financial challenges. The medical expenses associated with eye injuries can be overwhelming, with numerous doctor visits, surgeries, and specialized treatments required. In addition to the medical bills, Hugo may also need assistance with day-to-day living expenses during this recovery period, as he will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.
