Supporting James Wagar
Donation protected
We are hoping to raise money to help offset the cost of living at the sub-acute care facility where James is currently living. Our family goal is to maximize his recovery, regain abilities, and afford him a place to live with round the clock care for however long that might be. A critical component of his recovery is the support and expertise of the physical and occupational therapist on staff at this facility. Any donation that you give will be graciously received. In the end, we want to see him return home as independently and productively as possible allowing him to live life to the fullest. We are hopeful that James will make a significant recovery. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
On December 22, 2023, James was ill with covid and collapsed in his home. When he collapsed, he hit either the kitchen table or counter on his way down and broke his C5 and C6 vertebrae. At that very moment, James became paralyzed from his chest down. He laid on his kitchen floor until thankfully his nephew, Paul Jr., came home to hear him calling out for help. Paul Jr. quickly called 911 where they took him to the hospital and he was admitted to the ICU unit. Initially, he did not have any movement in his arms, trunk, and legs. However, now with the help of the intensive physical and occupational therapy and a lot of hard work on James’s part he has mobility of his arms, partial movement in his hands, and movement in his legs from his knees down. He still does not have feeling in his trunk confining him to a wheelchair, but James has not let that stop him! He has been walking with the assistance of his therapy team and some medical equipment. He now resides in a sub-acute facility as he cannot physically care for himself with the paralysis in his trunk and legs. The battle with the insurance company has been very difficult every step of the way to say the least. James is now up against the challenge that he will require physical and occupational therapy and care for many more months.
Throughout this whole ordeal James has remained quite positive, which is huge for his recovery! He truly is an inspiration, and we want nothing more than to make things easier for him during this challenging journey. On his behalf, we thank you for your prayers, support, and contributions.
