Supporting Jason Nopper and Family

Donation protected
Dear family, friends and kind supporters.

Currently, our dear Jason (Husband, Father, Brother, Son, Cousin, Nephew, Godson and friend) still remains in hospital and has been there since late November, 2024.  He currently is stable. He is getting stronger and is still dealing with hand tremors; but with physiotherapy, we are seeing a small improvement. This will however, remain a very long and stressful process. Jason can eat but still struggles with swallowing. The doctors recently inserted a gastric tube so he can be nourished with more calories. This will be for a short term until Jay gets stronger and can eat more on his own.

This is a long road for Jason and his immediate family, Nini, Olivia and Henry. We all have our own struggles, problems and financial burdens, but our dear Jason and Family could benefit with a little love from us all. The parking and gas costs alone to visit daily at the downtown Toronto hospital are one thing, never mind the mobility aids, physio, hospital bills and possible modifications to their home that is yet to come. Not every company has the best benefit plans.

Your generosity, whether through donations, prayers, or sharing this page, will help lighten the load for Nini, Olivia and Henry, and their family as they navigate this unimaginable journey. Every contribution, big or small, will allow them to focus entirely on Jason's recovery without the added worry of daily financial burdens.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being a source of hope and strength for Jason and his family during this incredibly challenging time. Together, we can show them they are not alone.

Here is Jason's story:

Late November he wasn't feeling well and complained about waking up at night due to a "bad smell ".   He felt dizzy and was experiencing a brain-fog.  He went to a walk-in clinic and the doctor said that he had a sinus infection and prescribed an antibiotic for Jason.

The symptoms still persisted for a few days later and another doctor thought there may be issues of pneumonia.   They did bloodwork and X-rays, but nothing conclusive was found.   That doctor gave him another prescription.  He did not react very well to the mixed medications and the next day following further confusion and general unwellness, Jason collapsed and became unconscious.   Nini called for an ambulance right away.  He had a seizure and was ambulanced down to Toronto Western Hospital where they performed life-saving brain surgery.  They opened up his skull on his right side of the head in order to relieve the pressure on his brain which may have caused some seizures to happen.  In the early stages of Jay’s diagnosis, it was determined that Jay had Covid and encephalitis. He also had a pulmonary embolism and with blood thinners, this will reduce and eventually go away.

Jason has progressed from being in and out of medically induced coma and ICU to his regular routine of testing (spinal taps, MRI's and CT scan).  He had a PLEX procedure (Plasma- Exchange) to cleanse his blood of bad antibodies but all tests remain inconclusive.
It has finally been determined that Jason has a low-grade glioma (tumor). Further surgery was performed at the end of January to remove as much of the tumor that they could without further disruption to his brain function. The doctors also replaced the brain flap on the right side of his skull. Pathology results take some time and further decisions as to the next step in Jason’s case is forthcoming. Along with the team of 10 doctors at Toronto Western Hospital, there are other doctors globally that are reviewing Jason’s complicated and unique case. The neurosurgeons and staff at Toronto Western Hospital in Toronto have been incredible.

All this being said, Jay’s recovery from this event will be many, many months.

Nini, Jason’s incredible wife has been extremely supportive for Jason. Nini has chosen to stop working in order to continually be with Jason as a primary family care giver and to spend more time with their young children, Olivia and Henry.

Jason’s employer has also been very supportive for him and the family.

Limited health insurance policies will only last for so long.

We continue to have Jason in our prayers daily.
