Supporting Jay Stevens' Spinal Injury Recovery

Donation protected
Jay Stevens, our mate Jay Blue – is a loving son, brother, and friend to many. Jay suffered a workplace head/neck injury while working in a Lake Macquarie underground coal mine on Tuesday 17 May 2022.

Jay’s accident saw him priority airlifted to receive emergency medical treatment at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, where he was placed into an induced coma to monitor the swelling on his brain.

Doctors discovered significant damage to Jay’s C5 and C6 vertebrae and he underwent surgery. His C5 and C6 were fused together and his spinal cord was severely damaged.

Jay is now awake from the coma preparing to move from the ICU to the Spinal Unit within the Royal North Shore Hospital. He currently has limited arm movement and it remains too early for doctors to confidently predict a long-term outcome on Jay’s recovery.

For anyone who knows Jay, knows and loves his positive and uplifting attitude – he makes everyone feel welcome and can put a smile on anyone’s face. Jay is a talented football player of the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs club, keen surfer, motorbike rider, able to pick up any sporting implement and be brilliant at it - and a globetrotter seeing the world.

Jay’s Mum & Dad – Judy and Jacky – remain hopeful of a best-case scenario knowing Jay will require significant support and long-term care.

The Jeffrey family have started this campaign to support Jay, Jack and Judy. Any funds raised will go directly to the Stevens family to help meet their needs and living expenses and any other support required for Jay’s ongoing recovery.

After speaking with Jay today, he has advised he would like to make a donation of a portion of any funds raised, to contribute to the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital.

We will continue to update this page as we are made aware of Jay’s progress.

With love, the Jeffrey family on behalf of the Stevens family. X
