Supporting Jenny Cosgrove's Recovery

Donation protected
For our great friend and co-worker Michael Cosgrove and his wife and best friend Jenny.

Michael is an amazing, kind, and extremely giving person who often volunteers his time and donates to various causes that he supports. He puts the needs of others above his and strives to make a difference in the world. He is also the biggest fan of his better and brighter half, Jenny Cosgrove.

Jenny suffered a traumatic brain injury from a ruptured arterial venous malformation in May of this year. After being in a coma for 2 weeks, Jenny has endured a series of ups and downs over the last 3 months. In the last week of July, Jenny was cleared for and underwent a series of surgeries to remove the AVM from her brain and start her long road to recovery. It is nothing short of a miracle that she is alive today, but the recovery is going to be an uphill battle for the foreseeable future.

Prior to injury, Jenny was as strong, independent, and driven a person as you could find. Jenny is a life-long scholar, having just completed her first year of her doctoral program through ASU’s school of social work with a focus on gender-based violence. She has been a mentor for young women through the leadership she provides for Sigma Kappa’s national recruitment platform. Jenny loved Pilates so much as a hobby that she became a certified instructor to teach others as a secondary business. She also started a primary business as a private consultant and evaluator to support projects surrounding after school programs, sexual education, and a variety of other programs focused on offering youth with a variety of learning mechanisms to help them thrive in the classroom. When Jenny isn’t working, she loves coffee, dogs, hikes, museums, and podcasts to name a few things.

Michael has a job he loves and great insurance, so it is vital that he continues to work so that Jenny will be covered, and he maintains their household income. There will be additional costs in transportation for Jenny to and from her rehabilitation sessions along with 24/7 in home care when Michael isn’t home until she is able to care for herself again. This financial stress and mental stress extend beyond just Michael as Jenny’s family and friends have a void that is waiting to be filled by Jenny until she completely recovers. Their dogs (Harper and Otto) are also missing their doggie-mom.

To paraphrase a quote that Michael shared with me while describing Jenny’s recovery: Arnold Schwarzenegger talked about how little victories add up in life. Every step in the right direction is a step towards a bigger victory, and it’s important to treat each little victory as such. While Jenny and Michael focus on their little victories, please consider providing your own little victory and help with the unexpected financial stress the Cosgroves will be experiencing over the next few months.
