Supporting Jerry Monti
Donation protected
In October 2018, my family received terrible news: my step-father Jerry Monti was diagnosed with cancer: Myelodysplastic Syndrome with blasts. MDS is a type of blood and bone marrow cancer that prevents the body from making enough red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The first step of Jerry's treatment, chemotherapy, has gone well and Jerry is ready for the second step: a stem cell transplant. A donor has been found!
The transplant process is a difficult one. Jerry will be admitted to the hospital for an entire month, starting as soon as mid-May. He will receive high-dose chemotherapy, followed by the stem cell transplant. Jerry will be in protective isolation while in the hospital. Upon discharge , Jerry will need to be monitored closely for 100 days and will not be able to work, drive , or go in public (aside from doctor's appointments). He will be living with his girlfriend Carol so that she can help care for him. Even a minor injury or illness could be dangerous.
Due to his treatment, Jerry will need to be out of work for 5-6 months. Jerry relies on his job as a limo driver to pay for his health insurance, doctors' bills, and other living expenses. Disability will not be enough. Any donation would be appreciated so that Jerry can focus on his health while he recovers.
Jerry has been a great blessing in my life, as in many of yours. Whether you are a family member , a friend, a coworker, or a client from Touch of Class, you all know that Jerry lights up a room with his smile and sense of humor. Jerry has been an example to me of how to live a good life. He has shown me how to be a friend, how to work hard, and how to find the joy in life amidst pain. Unfortunately, cancer has touched his life before, as it has for many of us, sadly. Jerry helped his first wife, Barb, through many bouts with cancer. He took care of his second wife, my mom Pat, when she was ill with cancer. I have seen Jerry struggle through the hardest of times, and I hope to lessen his burden in any way that I can. Please keep Jerry in your thoughts. If you prefer to send a card or check, please address it as follows:
