Katy Stinchfield was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in November 2023, and started chemotherapy in January 2024. Triple negative is a much less common form of breast cancer that “tends to grow and spread faster, has fewer treatment options, and tends to have a worse prognosis (outlook).” However, her doctors believe it can be cured with aggressive treatment, so Katy will have 6 months of intensive chemotherapy, followed by double mastectomy surgery, radiation treatments if needed, and a year of immunotherapy infusions.
If you don’t know them well, Katy works in community mental health, as well as doing private practice school mental health consulting. Andrew is a deputy fire staff officer with the US Forest Service, supporting fuels management programs to reduce the risk and impact of wildfire.
Katy and Andrew are kept very busy by their three precious little girls who they love more than anything. Their oldest is 5 and their twins are 2. ❤
In order to navigate treatment with a young family and busy jobs, the Stinchfields have moved to a short-term rental in Hood River, Oregon. Katy’s chemo will be at the hospital there, with an easier commute to OHSU in Portland where other treatment will take place. In Hood River, they were also able to secure full time childcare for all three kids at a lovely childcare center.
If you would like to help by contributing financially, this would greatly help offset increases in housing, childcare, transportation, and medical expenses.
The Stinchfield family truly appreciates all your messages and kind support and are so grateful to have such a caring community around them.
