Supporting Kaua`i Forest Bird Recovery
Tax deductible
Hello! My name is Ashley “Ashby” and I am humbly requesting donations to help support the Kaua`i Forest Bird Recovery Project (KFBR) via Garden Island Resource Conservation & Development (GIRCD).
Kaua`i is composed of several forest reserves that are home to eight critically endangered and endemic bird species:
- ‘Anianiau
- ‘Akeke’e
- ‘Akikiki
- ‘Apapane
- ’I’iwi
- Kaua`i ‘Amakihi
- Kaua`i Elepaio
- Puaiohi
Each of these birds hold significant ecological, cultural, and encomic importance to Kaua`i and Hawai’i at large. Their populations have been devastated due to development, mosquito-transmitted disease, climate change, invasive species, and more. Several of these species have fewer than 500 individuals in the wild, with the ‘Akikiki having ~5.
The KFBR and GIRCD work tirelessly to conserve these animals and better understand what we can do to ensure their survival. Due to the pandemic, however, funding resources have become scarce with a great deal of work being done by volunteers.
You can help support their research and outreach efforts by donating here, where all proceeds will be going directly to these organizations.
For more information, you can check out KFBRP’s website to learn more about their work.
Thank you for reading, and have a blessed day.
