Supporting Kelly & her family
Donation protected
My friend Kelly is from a small Snowy Mountain town called Tumbarumba, a town we both grew up in. Kelly has terminal leukemia.
It's hard to know what to say after that.
Kelly and I went to school together. Though we became close in high school. We are a few years apart and so never had classes together, and we barely saw each other at recess or lunch, but without fail we shared a bus seat every day. We stayed the only girls among the boys at the back of the bus for a long time, not having to reserve each other's seat because they were 'ours'. We were bus buddies. Right up until I graduated, and then last year, she did too.
It's been a hard few years for everyone, particularly Kelly and her family, with her diagnosis. No one could prepare any of us, let alone her. The money donated through this GoFundMe will go straight to Kelly and her family to help them know they're not alone in their battle.
I've had long hair the majority of my life. In the past, donating my hair was just for a good cause-- I didn't personally know anyone with a form of cancer. This year I know almost a dozen. Different kinds and different stages affecting numerous lives. This year, my hair goes to them. In tribute of everyone I know, don't know, will know and will never know, I'm donating my hair for them.
In a few weeks, my long hair will be donated to the Cancer Councils Ponytail Project through a Sustainable Salon. This isn't a page to sponsor me in cutting my hair, though I encourage you to donate your hair if possible or to any Cancer foundation--there's not one deserving over another. I can't ask you to sponsor me to cut my hair (though it's for an amazing cause) because it's never sat right with me. Instead, I ask to help a family through the unspeakable.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for donating.
