Supporting Kelsey's battle with breast cancer

Hi everyone,

We are looking to raise some funds to help support our friend Kelsey, as she faces yet another hurtle standing between her and the healthy, active lifestyle to which she yearns to return. Kelsey was diagnosed with stage 2 HERS2 Breast Cancer, an aggressive type of cancer which requires an intensive year of chemotherapy before surgery. Kelsey faces her treatment with the kind of strength, courage, and positivity that is awe inspiring, but also very characteristic of her.

Many of you may be aware of the chronic back injury Kelsey has been living with throughout her nursing career, but more acutely for the past 11 years, during which time she has had to drastically reduce the shifts that she can work while managing her pain and treatment therapies. Kelsey has been off work for the past year on a medical leave for this injury and is receiving LTD based on a part time income (and now with her return to work date completely unknown) which hasn’t permitted Kelsey to rent her own place. Kelsey has a desire to have her own healing space as she receives chemotherapy, has surgery, and during her recovery.

We have set our goal with the intent to ease some of the financial strain associated with her living/travelling/medical expenses throughout her year of treatment, allowing Kelsey to attack her treatment and her therapy in the manner that she chooses.

Kelsey’s a beam of light to so many around her. She has always been a wonderful support to her grandmothers and completely idolizes her three nieces, always wishing she could do more for them. She is a caring sister, daughter, and friend. As a nurse these past 16 years, Kelsey has demonstrated a total commitment to her patients, often going above and beyond, especially for those in the long-term care home who held a special place in her heart. Kels has been someone who has always rallied in our corner, through life’s highs and lows, as we are certain she has for many of you. As she perseveres through her course of treatment, let us wrap our arms around her, let her know we love her, and try to ease some tiny bit of burden, to help ease her mind and allow her to focus her strength around kicking cancer’s butt.
