Supporting Matt and his family after HLH diagnosis
Donation protected
Hello, we are a year of Drama School students at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire who would love to raise money for our friend and classmate Matt who recently has suddenly been taken seriously ill with HLH.
HLH stands for Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis and is a life-threatening immunodeficiency. It involves certain white blood cells (histiocytes and lymphocytes) building up and damaging organs, including the bone marrow, liver, and spleen, and destroying other blood cells. The disease is very rare and new from a research perspective so it is important to catch the illness early. The doctors have worked hard to diagnose Matt as quickly as they can and he is currently on his second round of treatment (chemotherapy) in hospital. With Matt already having been suffering from Crohns Disease, the doctors believe the HLH may have been linked to his weakened immune system. Thankfully, so far he is slowly responding to the chemo and we hope he continues to recover.
To raise money for Matt and his family, on the 19th of May all 30 of his classmates have decided to run a 10k relay race around Birmingham, ending up in Bournville (where RBC is located) whilst somehow managing to sing his favourite songs at the same time. Matt is an incredibly talented actor and musical theatre performer, recently having played Officer Lockstock in ‘Urinetown the Musical’. This whole fundraiser was actually inspired by Matt’s preparation for the role as he decided to run whilst singing the entire ‘Urinetown’ soundtrack. So we thought this would be perfect to raise money in a very ‘Matt’ way.
Matt is one of the most down to earth, kind, talented and loving people you will meet, and always has a silly comment for any occasion. He cares so greatly about his friends and family and works so hard at absolutely everything he does.
Any money donated will go towards his family who we would love to support as much as possible at this time.
Any amount, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
