Help Matt and Louise Benn Complete Their Home Renovation

### Our Story

Matt and Louise Benn have been pillars of the 1st Purley Scout Group since their eldest son, Callum, joined Beavers, followed by their youngest son Danny. Matt's leadership journey with us began after attending a Cub Camp as a parent helper, which led him to become an assistant Cub Leader. When the pandemic hit, Louise stepped up to become the Beaver Leader, despite having little training from the Scout Association. Her dedication saved our Beaver section from closure, a fate that befell many other groups during that time. Their passion for Scouting is contagious, and even through virtual meetings, our Beaver section thrived. Matt has often sacrificed his one Saturday off each month to attend Scout training sessions or help with Cub activities, always prioritizing the children.

### The Challenge

In March 2023, Matt was diagnosed with bowel cancer. With immense courage and resilience, he underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Despite his illness, Matt remained committed to attending Cub sessions weekly while undergoing treatment. In March 2024, we celebrated the news that Matt's bowel cancer was gone. However, just three weeks later, he received the devastating diagnosis that the cancer had metastasized to his lungs, rendering it inoperable and terminal (stage 4). Despite this, Matt continues to live life to the fullest, planning and running his first Cub Camp even while receiving chemotherapy every two weeks.

### Our Goal

Before Matt's diagnosis, he and Louise had begun renovating their home, a project meant to span several years. However, Matt's illness and inability to work for the past 18 months have significantly impacted their financial situation and the renovation project. We want to help Matt and Louise complete their home renovation as soon as possible, so they can enjoy their home together as a family.
