Supporting Matt Smith in His Battle Against Prostate Cancer

Donation protected

When I reflect on the heart of Golden, Colorado, one name rises to the top- Matt Smith. For over two decades, Matt has been the smiling face serving you beers and pizza at Woodys. And I don’t think I’m alone in saying over the years a friendly face, became a friend, became a part of our family.

Matt's journey to Golden began 20 years ago when he traded the Michigan winters for the Colorado adventures after hiking the storied Appalachian Trail. With his shaved head and infectious grin, Matt quickly became a fixture in our town. Embodying the spirit of our eclectic community. Whether he was biking through the streets, setting out on motorcycle trips, indulging in early morning Kona Bowl or Golden Diner runs, hiking South Table Mountain, or putzing around his garage.

But Matt's true joy came from the simple pleasures of life - serving his friends and family, hot tub nights, lending a helping hand to anyone, sharing laughter with friends over dinner or beers, enjoying Mexican food with his wife Lisa, and relishing in the moments of walking his beloved son Wesley to school each day.

Matt, a self-proclaimed hippy, held true to his carefree spirit, avoiding doctors' visits with unwavering confidence in his health. However, life took an unexpected turn when Matt received the devastating diagnosis of Stage 3 Prostate Cancer in April 2024. Now faced with an invasive surgery in the upcoming weeks, unplanned time off now and in the upcoming month, Matt faces a challenging road ahead.

As a community, I am proud to say we've always rallied around our own in times of need, and now it's our turn to support Matt and his family. The high cost of fighting cancer should never be a burden, especially for someone who has given so much of himself to others.

Your contribution, no matter how small, will directly ease the financial strain of medical bills and lost wages, allowing Matt to focus on his recovery without the added worry of financial stress. Together, let's ensure that Matt receives the best possible care and the chance for a healthy future surrounded by the love and support of his Golden family.

Thank you for your generosity and for standing with Matt in his fight against prostate cancer.
