Medical cost for Luke 's New Heart

Luke has battled congenital heart disease since birth, surviving multiple open heart surgeries and emergency procedures over the years. Born with HLHS, his battle was never going to be easy. He continues to fight, even after being told this last summer that he needs a new heart and possible liver transplant. His care was transferred in October to Seattle Children's Hospital for both heart and liver transplant evaluation. He completed his heart evaluation in early December 2022 and was accepted for a heart transplant, but waiting for his liver evaluation to formally list him. His liver evaluation was scheduled for the first part of January 2023. He turned 15 years old on December 19th and had a nice family party honoring him. At Christmas, they had our entire Montei family home for the holidays. His older sisters Jaden (21) and Jewel (16), and brother David (22). They had planned as a family to head to Pacific City and ring in the New Year in celebration together. Just before leaving for the beach, the morning of Friday 12/30, Luke started coughing blood. He was rushed to Randall Children's Hospital in Portland. He underwent two emergency surgeries to stop pulmonary bleeding in his lungs, but it just wasn't enough. He was sent by LifeFlight on New Year's Day, to Seattle Children's Hospital to his new cardiac team for help. Luke has remained in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit since. He has had additional heart caths and multiple emergency bronchial procedures, to remove blood and obstructions from his airways. He is in a very fragile state, yet continues to show us every day of every hour, that he is the strongest person we've ever known and he is not ready to go anywhere. He is a true heart warrior and a blessing to us all. #LukeStrong
