At the age of 30, in July 2019, Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer. This news came after she had been battling fertility issues and very recently came home with her adopted newborn son. She had a double mastectomy at this time to get rid of the cancer.
About two years later, her team found suspicious mass on one ovary. Due to her mutated BRCA gene and history of cancer, her doctors did not hesitate to perform a full hysterectomy. Her father passed away from cancer during this time period. When Megan was a child at 4 years-old, her mother passed away from cancer and 18 years later, so did her beloved step-mother. Cancer has not been easy on this family.
Now almost 4 years later, shy of exactly one day, Megan has been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. There is only a 3% chance of this occurring after a double mastectomy but this horrible disease found a way back. She is now embarking on a 24 week chemotherapy treatment journey. After this is complete, she will endure surgery, more chemotherapy and radiation starting in the new year with a new deductible to meet. Megan and Scott have been managing financially throughout all of these diagnoses and struggles without ever asking for help. However, with the latest discovery, medical bills are piling up and Megan is unable to work full-time so she can receive her chemotherapy. Because of this, we are organizing a GoFundMe on their behalf. Please consider contributing any amount, it will be greatly appreciated beyond words. Megan is a young, loving mother; a fiercely loyal friend; wife and sister. She is an amazing person who does not deserve to fight this alone. Let's help her kick cancer's ass AGAIN!
