Supporting Michael Tu and Family

**Update** Per the family’s request, all donations made will be paid forward to the heroic efforts of the Search and Rescue volunteers in bringing Michael back home to his family.

I’ve set up this GoFundMe to support the Tu family during an extremely heartbreaking tragedy that took place this week. They lost their beloved son and brother, Michael Tu.

Michael was a hardworking, kind, and caring individual that dedicated his time and career toward caring for others. If you crossed paths with Michael at some point, you’d know what an incredible person he was. It’s a painful and massive loss to both the nursing/healthcare community, his family, and his friends.

These funds are to support a loving, caring, and hardworking family through an unimaginably difficult time. Any help is deeply appreciated.

**An update from Michael’s brother, Eric:

“Michael was the best big brother I could ask for. He cared for me, led me in the right direction with my life, and would always roast me when I didn't hold the flashlight in the right spot while he was fixing something. Michael was someone you could rely on - he was absolutely selfless. He had a "can-do" attitude and believed that anything could be fixed.

His quirky humour, infectious laugh, and caring attitude will never be forgotten. He enjoyed the outdoors, cars, and just spending time with people.

He devoted much of his life to helping others through his career as a Registered Nurse; needless to say, he touched and changed many lives. I was so lucky and honoured to have been able to work a few bedside shifts with my brother when he started working at St. Paul's Hospital and got to see firsthand how much of an incredible nurse he was.

There was an unbelievable effort by the Lions Bay Search and Rescue team as well as rescue teams all across the province who came in to find Michael.

After a long day of searching, Michael was found on Mount Harvey but he unfortunately passed away.

I would like to extend my greatest gratitude to the RCMP, Lions Bay, North Shore, Coquitlam, Sunshine Coast, and Squamish Search and Rescue teams who came together, worked hard, and risked their own lives to find my brother as well as everyone who sent my family and I kind messages and prayers during his search.

If there was a way to continue Michael's legacy, it would be to share the message of caring for one another and paying it forward. All donations made will be sent to the Search and Rescue teams. Please give and choose love whenever you can because this life is so short. At this time, my family and I would like some privacy to process this tragic event.”
