Supporting Mothers against Police Violence in Rio
Donation protected
Police intervention in poor communities in Brazil has resulted in the loss of
6,416 people in 2020 and more than 45,000 in the past 10 years. In comparison, in the UK, 3 people were shot dead
by the police in 2020. The Film "Orphan Mothers" tells the story of
mothers and activists who have joined forces to fight the scourge of police
lethality in their communities. This fundraiser supports their fight for justice by enabling them to reach out to other mothers who lost their kids, support these mothers and engage them in the fight. Distances in Rio and Brazil are very large so even transportation costs are often an obstacle to their work.
