Supporting Nathaniel and Malakai Through This Transition
Donation protected
Morgan Maas Koch was too bright a light for us, so our heavenly father took her home on November 7, 2024, at age 24.
She was loved by and sincerely loved many. The luckiest ones of us are her husband, Nathaniel Koch, and their son, Malakai. Morgan and Nathaniel started their journey together in 2019, and Nathaniel proposed on Christmas Day of 2022 and their beautiful son, Malakai, was born in January. After not feeling well after his birth, Morgan was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in late April 2023.
Morgan and Nathaniel fought her diagnosis together for many months, with as many resources as they could find. Much of her treatment was away from home in Houston at MD Anderson. Nathaniel worked remotely part-time so as to spend all his time with her, while she spent six months undergoing chemotherapy to prepare for her stem cell transplant in October, which was successful. She came home right before Christmas and enjoyed being at home with her family and in remission.
A couple of months later, while in remission, Morgan and Nathaniel went on a trip to see her mother. This was both Morgan and Malakai's first airplane ride. There they began to plan their wedding for July 24, 2024, which was their five-year dating anniversary. The only competition for her time was Malakai, who loved having his mommy back home with him. Sadly, her remission only lasted a handful of months and the wedding she was looking forward to was postponed.
Late this summer, Morgan’s health declined even further. They continued to seek different kinds of care, but she was put in hospice care in the fall.
Morgan and Nathaniel’s desire to be married didn’t falter, a true embodiment of the phrase “in sickness and in health.” They married in a beautiful and intimate ceremony at home in September, surrounded by their family.
Morgan’s life was and will continue to be a blessing to all those she touched, and she will be remembered for the miraculous beauty of her life.
Donations will help cover many medical bills and final costs accrued while Nathaniel had limited or no ability to work as he was caring for Morgan.
Your generosity and kindness are much appreciated. With many thanks,
Nathaniel's Siblings
