Supporting our neighbors in Kenya during COVID19
Donation protected
The current COVID19 pandemic is affecting almost everyone, everywhere around the world. But some of us are better equipped to weather the storm, whether that's because we can work remotely, because our government is announcing relief measures, or because we have the financial means to stop working for a while.
For many communities in Kenya though, that is not the case. Without the ability to go out and earn an living everyday, millions of people are left wondering where they will get their next meal.
Yoga Heart Kenya was founded by a group of friends and siblings who grew up in Kangemi, one of Kenya's informal settlements, and now run a successful yoga studio space in Westlands.
The team also regularly carries out community outreach, including giving free yoga classes in Kangemi. With COVID19, they’ve now turned their attention to supporting communities in Kangemi and Kibagare with access to hand washing stations as well as basic food necessities.
Since they have a close connection to, and command great respect within their communities, several of us living in a neighboring suburb in Nairobi have decided that they would be the perfect partner for us to try and support neighbouring, less privileged areas.
Over the past four weeks, we've been able to deliver baskets of essential items to more than 600 families in Kangemi and Kibagare, Kenya. All funds raised for this campaign go directly towards the purchase of these essential items, which are purchased from local businesses and then distributed to communities in need by Walter Mugwe and his team at Yoga Heart Kenya, who are doing this entirely voluntarily.
Please comment, share or message if you are interested in helping.
