Supporting Retired SDFD Captain Edward Cardenas: A Fundraiser for Resilience and Recovery
On 11/8/23, retired San Diego Fire Captain Edward Cardenas faced a harrowing incident, trapped in a burning vehicle. In critical condition and in a medically induced coma, he undergoes burn surgeries, displaying remarkable resilience.
Edward, a dedicated 41-year veteran of the City of San Diego Fire Rescue Department, served in various roles, including Firefighter III, Engineer, Operations Captain, FEMA Rescue Team Member on USAR-Task Force/8 (Southern California), Technical Rescue Technician 4/B Division (City of SD) and Rescue 41/B Division (OES State of California). He broke barriers as a Latino First Responder, bridging communities through his commitment to "No Borders" and supporting bi-national efforts. Retiring in 2021, he looked forward to a new chapter but now confronts this formidable challenge with the same grit that defined his career.
As he fights each day, we remain hopeful and appreciative of prayers. Edward embodies resilience, dedication, and determination. We have faith he'll overcome, rediscover purpose, and be a living testament to miracles. Heartfelt gratitude to the heroes who acted swiftly to save his life: his neighbors, first responders, the San Diego Fire family, Chief David Picone, Chaplain Debie, AMR San Diego and the dedicated UCSD hospital staff.
Please join us in supporting Edward on his journey to recovery. Your contribution makes a meaningful impact on his medical care and family support. Thank you for your compassion.
We love you! May you feel our vibrations and prayers. May God give you peace and strength.
