Here is Susie story in her own words...

I am being treated at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo. I was diagnosed Stage 2B mixed undifferentiated high grade carcinoma and endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the ovaries in December 2019.  I had surgery to remove 18x12 cm tumor on left ovary, and 12x11 cm tumor on right ovary. They also removed my appendix and omentum as tumors had spread to these areas. Followed by 6 months of chemotherapy.  Tumor markers normalized and no evidence of disease on CT scan.  There was inflammation noted on abdominal lymph nodes. Follow-up in August for repeat CT.

Abdominal pain/issues started in July 2020. CT was moved up to evaluate. Findings showed metabolically active metastasis involving the liver and several abdominal lymph nodes. New treatment plan of daily chemotherapy pill and monthly infusions of two immunotherapy drugs. Testing is done every month to watch for potential side-effects that would damage my organs. EKG, Thyroid, Kidney and Liver tests are done every month.

The goal of treatment right now is to shrink current tumors and stabilization. I have been told that I will possibly need some form of treatment for the rest of my life.

I am also being treated in the palliative and dental clinics as well. The palliative clinic is managing my pain and the dental clinic is assisting with the damage chemotherapy has done to my mouth.

I do have insurance but co-pays on tests, treatment, and prescriptions as well as travel expenses (gas, parking, meals) add up quickly every month.  One of the immunotherapy drugs I am on is not covered by my insurance.  Thankfully, the manufacturer of the drug along with Roswell Research have picked up the cost.  I am currently working through treatment as I used all my short-term disability and FMLA during the first 6 months of treatment.  I am eternally grateful to my family, friends, co-workers, employer, and strangers that have supported me through this battle thus far.  I could not fight this cancer without the support I have received so far. There are not enough words or time in the day to thank everyone.

Susie is not only an amazing co-worker, but a wonderful friend and now new Grandma.  Susie just welcomed her 1st grandbaby, a beautiful baby girl on September 25, 2020.  Please help me ease Susie's financial stress by donating what you can to help her with her medical expenses.  Due to COVID, all in-person fundraisers were canceled and baskets and dinners could not be sold.  I know this is a stressful year for us all, but I ask if you could in anyway help my dear friend Susie, her, her family, friends, and work family will appreciate it so much.
