Supporting the Cancer Fight for Richard Cook

It’s been almost three years since Richard began his courageous battle with cancer, and the journey has been nothing short of extraordinary in its challenges and his resilience. Since November 16, Richard has been hospitalized as his myeloma has aggressively spread, leading to new complications, including bacterial and fungal infections, pain management struggles, and the discovery of lesions in his spinal cord. Despite these setbacks, Richard’s determination and positive mindset remain unwavering.

Currently, Richard is undergoing an intense immunotherapy treatment plan, requiring weekly lumbar punctures and platelet transfusions to sustain his body’s ability to keep fighting. His incredible care team has emphasized the importance of transitioning to home-based treatment so that he can focus on spending meaningful time with his family and doing the things he loves.

This next chapter is both hopeful and deeply challenging. While the medical team has discussed comfort care as an option, Richard and his family are holding onto hope for one more miracle. His body is struggling, but his spirit is strong, and they are ready to face whatever lies ahead.

--- Looking Back at the Start of His Fight ---

I’ve initiated this fundraiser for the support of Richard Cook and Karli Welker Moore. I imagine if you’re reading this you’re fortunate to know these two incredible individuals. Karli is an incredible mother, supporter of all, and selfless super hero, and Rich is a gifted tattoo artist, friend to everyone, and a papa bear to his children and now blended family. Together they’ve been indestructible, but find themselves now fighting the fight that too many are familiar with… cancer.

 

After more than a year of visits with medical professionals, Richard was recently presented a diagnosis: Plasma Cell Leukemia Secondary. Since that day, their world has been forever changed. His condition is in particular extremely rare and aggressive, and while he’s in the early stages of treatment, the larger reality is … they could use our support. I am proactively raising money to help with medical bills and pharmacy costs, basic necessities (mortgage, bills, food, etc), and other costs related to his diagnosis.
