Supporting the Feemster Family

Melissa Feemster is an amazing mother, wife, friend and employee.  After an already complicated pregnancy and almost 39 weeks pregnant, Melissa was admitted to UT Southwestern on Friday, January 29th with high blood pressure and contractions. The doctors elected to postpone her delivery until Sunday 01/31 due to staffing. Elowen Chorus Feemster arrived coming in at 7 lbs 2 oz. While Elowen and Mom were bonding, Melissa started to hemorrhage and lost almost her entire body’s blood supply.  Thanks to her doctors swift thinking, she was given multiple blood transfusions , and an emergency hysterectomy and was intubated in an effort to save her life. Melissa is nothing short of a miracle. She is now off life support and able to be moved into a room where she can be with her daughter. This family lives paycheck to paycheck with Melissa being the main breadwinner as the lead vet tech at Vickery Place Animal Hospital. Their family had budgeted the cost of having another baby, but can not afford the almost week long hospital stay as well as all the additional costs to save Melissa’s life. Every small contribution makes an enormous difference to this family. Besides Elowen, Justin and Melissa also have two daughters at home, one of which has significant medical needs.
