Supporting the Greenways

On Sunday, September 6th, Allie, Adam, and their four young kids returned home from a trip visiting family to find that their house had been broken into and lived in for several weeks.
Their home, which they have rented for 4 years had been ruined. The beds had been broken and stained, the kids’ clothes and toys had been strewn all over, and there was drug paraphernalia everywhere, including in the kids’ new back to school backpacks. Almost all of their things have been stained, broken, or stolen. Without renter’s insurance, they have to find a way to replace all of their possessions.
Adam, with the support of some of Nanaimo’s wonderful community members, returned to the house on Monday, September 7th, to begin the long process of cleaning and sanitizing the mess. That evening, Adam returned to check on the house to find that the home invader was back and had boarded himself in. Thankfully, the RCMP responded quickly, though they had to break in the front door to arrest the man inside.
Now, on top of having to replace everything they own, the Greenways will need to install and pay for monthly home security to begin the process of feeling safe in their home again.
Anyone who knows Allie and Adam knows that they are incredibly kind and generous people, offering help wherever they can, and instilling those values in their beautiful children. It has been heartbreaking to see them struggle with the emotional pain of having cherished keepsakes destroyed while also shouldering the financial burden of replacing all the things they’ve lost.
We started this fundraiser to help relieve the financial stress of their situation. Family, friends, and community members have already been rallying to support the Greenway family, but there is still a lot they need to restart their home and feel safe again.
Donations will go towards
- Replacing broken and stained furniture such as the kitchen table and chairs
- New household goods, such as towels, pots and pans, etc.
- Paying for security cameras and a monitored alarm system
- Replacing the kids' back to school supplies
- New clothes for the kids
- Replacing stolen and ruined electronics
- Covering unexpected costs such as meals or hotel stays as they restore their home
The Greenways have expressed how much everyone’s support and positive thoughts have meant during this time. It has been an overwhelming experience to come home to, and they are so grateful to everyone who has reached out and offered help.
Thank you for helping this wonderful family and thank you for any support you can offer.
