Supporting the Klemm’s
Donation protected
If you don’t already know, this is the Klemm family. We have had the privilege of being their neighbors for almost 10 years now! They are quite literally a part of our family and we are asking for your help.
Zack was taken to the ER just before Christmas, presenting with stroke-like symptoms. A CT scan indicated that the symptoms were actually caused by a tumor in the left side of his brain that was causing swelling which affected his motor coordination.
They transported Zack to the UVA Neurosurgery department where he stayed two more days before coming home before Christmas with steroids and anti-seizure medications to control the swelling and additional symptoms.
A biopsy has shown that the source of Zack’s cancer is very likely his kidney. He begins treatment today (Jan 2) with Gamma Knife Radiation on the brain tumor, and the success of that will determine the path and timeline of treating the cancer in the rest of his body.
Because Zack had seizures at the ER, he’s unable to drive for six months, and we know at this point that at least his primary oncologist at UVA is not “in network” to his insurance.
Zack is otherwise very healthy and is “up and about” and feeling good right now, but has relented to reaching out in this way, knowing that the real work and difficulty is more than likely just beginning, not just for him but especially for Jen and the girls as well. The timetable for treatment is a huge unknown, and we just want to get ahead of it before the inevitable obstacles start to hit.
Our hope here is to allay any additional pain and stress related to out of network costs, and to allow the Klemms to focus on Zack’s recovery and on each other as they encounter the inevitable ups and downs of Zack’s treatment with the team of specialists over in Charlottesville. Zack and Jen have been positively overwhelmed and uplifted by the love and support they’ve received from this incredible community already, and can’t wait to get to the other side of all of this to return that love.
If you are fortunate and willing please consider donating any amount possible to our favorite people in the world! If you are unable totally fine, we understand, just be kind and share this with others.
If you would like to reach out, we ask that you contact Heather Grant or Alisha/Chris Nix. Thank you!
