Assisting Lt Pettinicchi and his family

This go fund me page was created by the friends, family, and supporters of the family of Lt. Mark Pettinicchi. The purpose was to assist with his care and treatment after he was gravely injured in the line of duty.

 

On November 4, 2021, Naugatuck Police Lieutenant Mark Pettinicchi was directing traffic at an extra duty traffic post when a suspect driving a Honda Ridgeline, who was wanted for various charges, accelerated and struck Lt Pettinicchi at his traffic post. Witness statements later obtained from the scene described the act as intentional. Despite his injuries, Lt Pettinicchi was able to radio for assistance, and officers responded to the area and initiated a pursuit with the Honda after it failed to stop.

 

The Honda led officers on a pursuit that traveled from Route 8 to Waterbury, Wolcott, back through Waterbury, Route 8, and I-84 westbound before being apprehended in Middlebury in the area of the South Street overpass. During the pursuit, the vehicle’s occupants discarded drugs, money, and a .380 pistol from the vehicle. The suspects were captured, and the guns and drugs were subsequently recovered and seized.

 

Lt. Pettinicchi is a veteran officer with over 19-years with the Naugatuck Police Department. Lt. Pettinicchi has sustained a shattered left ankle, a fractured right tibia, and a fractured right ankle due to being struck by the Honda. Lt. Pettinicchi underwent extensive surgery for the fractures at Waterbury Hospital and is expected to have several more reconstructive surgeries in the coming weeks and months.

 

All of the proceeds will be to assist the Pettinicchi family during these challenging times. Over the next few months, The Pettinicchi’s home will need to be modified so Lt Pettinicchi can get around. Additionally, the family also has two teenaged boys. We have arranged dinners for the family to be distributed throughout the week for the next few months and will assist the family with as much as we can so Lt. Pettinicchi can focus on his recovery.
