Ursula found a lump in January, and while they were at their son Anson's Snocross Race in Lake Geneva on St. Patrick's Day, it was confirmed that it was breast cancer; this is when their journey began. Ursula's diagnosis began with a mammogram and a biopsy when they decided to do a double mastectomy with reconstruction. They went into the surgery knowing there was one cancerous tumor and found another and also decided it was best to take 23 lymph nodes as well, all from her left side. Initially, they thought with the double mastectomy that they wouldn't need to do chemo but later decided it was best to follow the surgery with four rounds of chemo and five weeks of radiation, five days a week. Ursula started chemo in June and will need to be staying in Rochester near The Mayo Clinic once radiation begins. Ursula is able to stay at a place called Hope Lodging for people going thru cancer treatments. She feels very fortunate to have The Mayo so close, but it will definitely be hard to be away while she completes these five weeks of radiation. She will be able to cook meals and stuff at her place but is only allowed one caretaker the whole time she is there. She will be able to be with her family on the weekends, which will be wonderful for all of them.
Please consider donating to help the Scheele's out with all their upcoming expenses not only on the medical side but also with being so far away from home and still being able to be together as a family when they can.
