Martin was a self-proclaimed geek. A high-tech loving family man. A proud and fierce husband of 25 years to Cathy and doting father to his two girls Sandra and Julia. Martin always spoke of his love of world travel, family camping trips, hiking, roller blading, fitness, and of course the “Dads-Dance” he performed in annually at his daughters' dance recital. He loved to talk about his daughters' accomplishments with much excitement, and enjoyed many daily lunches prepared by Cathy, who really did spoil him.
Martin recently celebrated his 10-year work anniversary with a company he loved: Fidus. Martin was a "big picture" thinker who seamlessly combined this skill with his increasingly vast experience. He was constantly feeding his absolutely insatiable curiosity, creating new perspectives, approaches and ideas. Once he formed the “big picture”, he was equally adept at rolling up his sleeves and getting that job done well. This is precisely why Martin was able to achieve so many successes and gain everyone’s respect.
Martin will be forever part of the Fidus Team. During his 10 years with Fidus, he touched nearly every project, system, database, and most importantly its team. Martin made Fidus a place where people want to work for 10 years and beyond.
In early June, Martin and Cathy celebrated with all of us at “Fidus Fest”. We had an exceptionally great time, creating many special memories together. Those memories have now become all the more precious; now being held more dear. In our wildest dreams, we could never have imagined what was lurking, just a few short months later. At the end of September, Martin received his diagnosis. At the end of October, he passed away.
As this most recent September (2023) came to a close, Martin was feeling unwell, to which he was given the shocking and heartbreaking diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. With no cure and numerous systemic delays eliminating the possibility for any treatment, the prognosis was grim. Cathy cast her own disabling health concerns to the sideline to become his sole caregiver, tending to each of his needs for what little time he still had remaining. Martin was the sole “breadwinner” for his family, now leaving much uncertainty and anxiety for his family’s future.
Sadly, on the night of October 29th, Martin lost his courageous battle with cancer leaving a void that can never be filled.
As you do with family (both biological and chosen), you support. As part of Martin & Cathy's "chosen" Fidus family, we are looking to support Cathy, Sandra and Julia while they grieve and learn to navigate life without Martin.
