Supporting Troy Bee Through Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Our dear friend, Troy Bee, was diagnosed with throat cancer on November 1st and will undergo a minimum of seven weeks of radiation along with two rounds of aggressive chemotherapy. Troy, who is otherwise a healthy 41yo man, was understandably shocked to learn that what appeared to be a sore throat was instead a life-altering illness.
I have spent weeks deliberating over what to write in this GoFundMe because no matter what I say, it is impossible to fully encapsulate Troy's being. Troy is one of the most genuine, thoughtful, and intentional people I know. He shows up for his tribe yet rarely asks for anything in return...you can imagine how much convincing it took for him to allow this GoFundMe to go live. He has treated me like family from the beginning and without hesitation gone out of his way to help when needed. Now it is our turn to help him!
Troy has been dealt a really unfortunate hand of cards over the past year. Shortly after moving out to California in 2022, and buying a home, he was laid off from his job with Old Navy. In an effort to make ends meet, Troy has taken to dog walking and other odd jobs. To add more stress, Troy and his partner, Lauren, are in the midst of planning their Spring 2024 wedding. Following news of his cancer diagnosis, Troy has suspended his job pursuits to prioritize his physical and mental healing journey. Living in the Bay Area and paying a mortgage with one income is beyond challenging and it is my hope that financial support will allow them to stay in their home and focus on what matters - getting Troy back to a place where he can be hopeful about his future. Although we are hoping that insurance will cover a large amount of treatment expenses, there will undoubtedly be additional costs that remain uncovered. Troy is receiving treatment at UCSF and commuting to and from the hospital five days per week will add up between toll and parking costs. This fundraising effort is intended to alleviate whatever stress possible so that Troy can navigate the road ahead without the additional burden of financial strain. Funds will be directed towards any alternative treatments that are not within insurance coverage, groceries, transportation costs, and mental health support.
