Supporting Tyler's Road to Recovery

UPDATE 2 - It’s been just over a month and a half now since the accident and Tyler has come so far. He left the ICU about two weeks ago where he was moved to the spinal unit. His time there was spent focusing on stabilizing his medications and removing his tracheostomy. On Thursday December 21st, Tyler was moved to the rehab unit where he will now stay until discharge. This is where he will be doing intense rehab and focusing on strengthening his muscles he is still able to use and learn how to live with his condition. He still has no feeling from his chest down and is still unable to use his hands or his triceps. This is something that we have been told will most likely not come back.
There is not much else that can be done within his hospital stay at Foothills, but there are other options outside of the hospital that we are wanting to explore once he is discharged. One of the options entails a trip to Mexico where Tyler would receive a epidural electrical stimulation device to help bridge the connections from his brain down past his level of injury. This device has shown great outcomes for others and is something we are very hopeful about that will help Tyler not only potentially gain some function back but to also help with blood pressure and temperature regulation, which is something he is unable to do on his own. This surgery could help Tyler immensely, however, it’s quite an expensive surgery.
We want to thank everyone for all of their love, support and donations so far. We can’t even fathom how many people stand behind Tyler through this unprecedented and difficult time. We are forever grateful. We ask for people to continue to share his story and his go fund me page so that we can access external resources that the hospital is unable to offer.
UPDATE 1 - It's hard to believe that it's been a week and a half since Tyler's accident. As some may not know, Tyler had been on life support since his emergency spinal surgery on Sunday (Nov 12). Over the last few days, Tyler has had a successful tracheotomy and was weened off sedation which means he's one step closer to being able to talk to us. Right now due to being on assisted breathing he is unable to talk but is able to answer yes or no question by nodding his head, Although the prognosis may still be grim considering the circumstances, Tyler has continued to impress the doctors with his strength. Tyler has been surrounded by his family and girlfriend day and night and they have witnessed him regaining a little more strength everyday.
There have been many ups and downs as Tyler continues to fight. He has been informed that he will not be able to walk again, and he still has a long battle to determine if quadraparalysis is another hurdle to face.
The love, support, and community that has rallied around Tyler during this time has been nothing short of amazing and a true reflection of what Tyler means to friends, family, and the dirtbike community. We ask that you continue to send positive thoughts, share the gofundme, and rally around Tyler as he continues on this journey. We know that he is so thankful for all of this support. Tyler’s eyes lit up when he heard about the success of the go fund me and being able to share with Tyler he doesn’t have to worry about finances right now is a huge thing to keep him focused on what’s important right now, which is recovery.
Original Post-
The passion and dedication that Tyler has for dirt biking is unmatched. He has earned plenty of first place wins and can always be found riding on the weekends with his favourite people.
On November 12th, the worst kind of tragedy happened. Tyler hit a tree while riding at McLean Creek and had to be airlifted by STARS to Foothills Hospital. The extent of his injuries include a severely broken neck and damage to his spinal cord. He has not regained feeling or function below his waist at this point.
What we're being told by the doctors now is Tyler has a very long road of recovery ahead of him, including staying in hospital for the foreseeable future and will likely be eventually leaving in a wheelchair.
This is an unimaginable and life changing event for someone who has dedicated his 33 years to entrepreneurial pursuits, welding, and of course his passion for dirt biking.
We have created this Go Fund Me in Tyler's name to show our love and support for this long road ahead and to make sure that financial strain is not apart of his journey in recovery.
