Supporting Urban Agriculture in Chicagoland
Donation protected
Mother Carr’s farm is a community supported agriculture (CSA) project of the Vernon Park Church of God located in Lynwood, Illinois. In 2012, the farm started on one acre of land and was a huge success, producing over 2000 lbs. of pesticide- free produce; and thereby led to the expansion to a 10-acre farm. The success continued; in our first season as a CSA farm we produced over 35,000 lbs. of pesticide-free produce to over 100 CSA members and donating 5,000 lbs. to local food pantries.
Our mission is to maintain a sustainable, pesticide free farm, while providing economic opportunity for the community. Mother Carr’s Farm maintains a bee colony that provides natural pollination of our produce and provides a natural bi-product of honey for our members. Additionally, in 2015, we opened our Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.
Mother Carr’s Farm connects our community with the environment through fresh local produce, education and economic empowerment. As we have grown, we have been challenged financially and we are looking to the community for support as we expand our production. This expansion will require the purchase of new farm equipment and hiring local teenagers for labor. This gives our youth the opportunity to connect with the land and learn the trade of agriculture.
Money raised from this fundraiser will go towards purchasing an irrigation system, storage and prep facility, a roto tiller and to support our Farm Manager’s role. We thank you for your support.
