Supporting Western NC Towns Impacted by Helene

Hi Friends, Family, Strangers..❤️

I am Libby, a local resident to Watauga county (Boone), which is one of the many counties affected by Hurricane Helene. Our small mountain town and surrounding towns around us have been severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. We do not have the infrastructure to handle an emergency this severe. The damage is treacherous. Thousands of people are without shelter, food, and water. People/animals have not yet been located, and many roads to these missing people/people in need are still not accessible.

Whole houses have been washed away, bridges are destroyed leaving towns completely isolated. The power shortage across Western North Carolina is impacting stores and gas stations to remain open.

If you can donate even a dollar, it will help tremendously. I am going to stores around Boone to load up on supplies to donate to these towns near me.

So far I have gotten many loads of goods from Lowe’s hardware and Big Lots. This includes:

Food: canned goods, beef jerky, protein shakes for

elders, individual nut packages, Gatorades, tuna packets

Gas: Gas cans filled, mixed fuel for chain saws, flashlights with backup batteries.

Hygeine: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, tampons, pads, diapers, soap, body wash, dish soap, toilet paper, baby wipes

Warmth: blankets, socks, jackets, rain jackets, gloves

The list could go on but I want to give you an idea of the stuff being donated so you know what your money is going towards.

I have brought these donations to Meat Camp (Plan B general store) Banner Elk (town hall) , Boone (Summit Church and Hunger&Health Coalition). I’m heading to Asheville now to get as close as I can to the city and hit smaller towns on the way to see what they need.
