Base 51 has been supporting young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire for over 30 years, providing a mental wellbeing support to 11-24 year olds.
It costs us £50 to provide a counselling session to a young person in need - and the demand for this service is higher than ever.

Statistics about Nottingham:
- Of the 182 neighbourhoods in Nottingham 98 were among the 20% most income-deprived in England.
- Nottingham is the 17th most economically deprived Local Authority in Britain
- 40.0% of children under 16 in Nottingham were part of families with low income in 2022/23
- Nottingham is the worst place for Youth Violence per 100,000 people in the England
- Over the last decade, spending on services for young people in England has halved – down by more than half a billion pounds since 2012/13 in real terms
- The number of youth clubs operating in local authorities fell by 44% between 2011/12 and 2018/19
- Over a million children were referred to mental health services in 2022/23 – nearly double (98% higher) the number in 2016/17
- 3.6 million children were in absolute poverty, equivalent to 1 in 4.
- In 2022/23, there were 467 instances of children being treated in hospital for injuries caused by a knife or sharp object – a 47% increase from 10 years previously
