Support Kevin's Recovery
Our beloved and adored son and brother, Kevin Michael Dolan, had a terrible diving accident on July 10, 2021 in Lake Charlevoix, Michigan. He suffered severe damage to three vertebrae (C5, C6, C7) and significant trauma to his spinal cord. Thanks to the immediate efforts of his friends who were with him on the lake that Saturday afternoon, he is alive and on the long, fierce road to recovery.
Kevin went immediately to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, whereupon the receiving staff acted swiftly and he was medevaced to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. After a long but successful surgery to stabilize his fractured cervical vertebrae, Kevin has retained mobility in his upper body and arms. He is on a trach, working with physical therapists to rebuild his core strength and hopes to breathe on his own soon. While we do not have a full analysis of Kevin’s functionality from the chest down, we remain hopeful and positive that he has a bright future ahead.
On July 23, 2021, Kevin was transported to the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago to begin his next phase of recovery and rehabilitation. Kevin loves Shirley Ryan, and the team is already pushing him to do more, be more, and focus on success one day at a time. His journey is just beginning but thanks to the spiritual prayers, outpouring of support, and unrelenting positive energy from all of you, we are certain Kevin will be doing all of the things he loves in life – golfing, kayaking, skiing, hiking, cooking, camping, and more. All donations will be put towards ensuring Kevin can receive the best care and technology to get him there.
Kevin is still very much the irrepressible, smart, funny, wiseass, infuriating person we know and love. As a young student at University of Detroit Jesuit, Kevin loved playing lacrosse and ice hockey before continuing his education at Michigan State University and Arizona State University. He has a passion for economics, political science, and software development. You might have seen him serving up your morning coffee as the local, smiley Starbucks barista.
The motivation for this GoFundMe campaign is to support Kevin’s recovery and his eventual return to independence by assisting with medical bills, travel expenses for the family, rehabilitation, and housing adjustments. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and all funds will go directly to Kevin.
