85% of the Australian population want Voluntary Euthanasia/ Assisted Suicide Law Reform.

What are our elected representatives waiting for?

I would not like to think I need to lose my medical registration or risk going to jail simply to force our Members of Parliament to do the job our taxes pay them to do!

End of life choices are a fundamental human right. Nothing more, nothing less.

ABOUT MY LEGAL DEFENSE FUND

What started out as an investigation by the Australian Medical Board into my fitness to hold medical registration, has turned into something much bigger, with the recent suicide of Max Bromson.

Max was in the final stages of carcenoid cancer when he took his own life surrounded by his family.

While the Immediate Action Committee of the Australian Medical Board moved at midnight to suspend my registration as a medical doctor, such was the danger they thought I represent to the Australian community, the recent 'rational suicide' of former Voluntary Euthanasia Party Candidate, Max Bromson, has opened a new battlefront.

Because Max had his family with him when he died and because he died from drinking Nembutal he had obtained from overseas, Max's two adult children Pip and Matt, his brother Gary and sister Kerry and myself are all now under investigation for assisting with his suicide.

My Legal Defense Fund is now more important than ever.

Not only do I need to raise funds for solicitors and senior counsel to appeal against the suspension of my medical license but I now need - possibly - to mount a criminal defense should politically-motivated charges be brought against me.

Don't get me wrong, I knew life as a voluntary euthanasia activist would never be easy, I didn't realise the insidious length of the arms of those who, for religious or other reasons, oppose end of life choice.

There are sinister political forces at play in the aftermath of Max Bromson's death. They need to be exposed.

In 2014, the penalty for assisting a suicide in South Australia is 14 years jail. No one should have to bear such a burden when their only act is being a good and loyal friend.

Friends answer questions when asked. Max had a copy of my Peaceful Pill Handbook.  He asked questions and I answered them. Friends do not dicatate what is best for others. Friends provide suppport, comfort and friendship.

This should not be a crime. Max made an informed, considered decision to end his suffering from cancer and die with his famliy present. No one encouraged him. No one assisted him. It was his decision, and his alone.

Had Max come to Darwin in 1997 to use the Rights of the Terminally Ill Act, he would have easily qualified. He could have been prescribed Nembutal which he could have taken back to his home in Adelaide.

Then his family would have been spared the trauma of being attended by 17 detectives and undergoing 2 hour interviews into the circumstances of his death.

Australia needs Voluntary Euthanasia Law Reform Now!
