I am putting an URGENT call out to our fellow artists, creators, comic book and fantasy fans, geeks, gamers, and anyone who has been inspired by art and value the artists who create it.
If you've been to a comic or gaming convention in the last few years, you've likely seen Kris and Lindsay at their booth, and if you haven't SEEN them, there's still a good chance you've heard Kris' boisterous, baritone laugh from across the convention floor.
My name is Ryane and when my husband John and I met Kris and Lindsay years ago at a convention, we were immediately struck with how kind and genuine they both are. We became fast friends and always look forward to seeing them at conventions, year after year.
Kris and Lindsay are best known at conventions for their fabulously quirky scented soaps and candles with offbeat scents that are inspired by all-things-geeky. They're the epitome of the type of folks who'd give you the shirts off their backs if you needed it.
Each of them are normally traveling cross-country during these months, however COVID-19 has changed that. All of the conventions they had booked have been cancelled. Deposits are slow to be returned (if at all) and these unforeseen circumstances have had a mounting and enormous financial impact on Kris and Lindsay.
And then, just when it looked like things couldn't possibly get worse. They did.
On Sunday May 17th, Lindsay was admitted to the ICU with an as-yet-to-be-diagnosed illness.
Her symptoms included:
Vision and sight problems
Violent headache
Nausea and vomiting
Fever
Chest pains
After admission and some basic testing, the doctor found she had
'Stroke level' high blood pressure and have told Kris she will be there in the ICU till at least Tuesday the 19th.
Medication has brought her blood pressure down to a less dangerous level and after bloodwork, an MRI and multiple rounds of imaging, the doctors best guess is Viral Spinal Meningitis.
There is no current reason to believe Lindsay's illness is COVID-related.
They are currently waiting for additional test results and a consultation with another doctor.
The doctors do not yet know what amount of long term vision, kidney or brain damage this episode may have caused for Lindsay.
We have no way to know what the overall financial impact of Linday's hospitalization will be, but K&L need immediate help with the basics (rent, utilities, food) in addition to their long term mounting medical bills.
I've set our goal at $5,000 and if we make that goal, K&L won't have to worry about keeping rent paid for a couple months while Lindsay is recuperating. And with any luck, we'll surpass that goal and it will keep the medical bill collectors away for a while, too. *fingers crossed*
Updates on Linday's condition will be posted here.
