Zoe's Medical Support Fund
Hello Everyone, I would like to raise awareness and beg for any support for a family who are close friends of mine. Zoe and Alex and their two children who live in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.
Recently a dear friend of mine, Zoe, was diagnosed with Borreliosis, a strain of Lyme Disease, after over a year suffering from seizures and pain, with various doctors finally agreeing with the diagnosis. Unfortunately this disease is not recognised within Australia, even to the point of having it's name unrecognised as "Lyme", and without any state or federal support Alex and Zoe has had to use the funds that they were saving for their future as a family. In addition there is barely, if any, proper treatments for the disease within the country.
For those not familiar with Lyme Disease and its strains, here is a quick definition; an acute inflammatory disease that is transmitted by ticks, that is usually characterized initially by a spreading skin lesions and by heavy fatigue, fever, and chills, and that if left untreated may later manifest itself in joint pain, arthritis, and cardiac and neurological disorders —called also Borreliosis (Zoe is now wheelchair bound by this disease.)
Alex has recently been made redundant due to the falling employment within the mining industry, and Zoe has had to cease work in childcare due to the disease. Alex has been able to continue work as a chef, however, with only one income and not at the rate of what a Chef would receive from working at a mining site, the couple has had to use up all their savings that they have put away for their wedding and for their first home. As well as their youngest son is away and at his grandparents for extended periods, as Zoe is needed at the Hospital and Alex has to work, as childcare is financially unviable.
I am seeking kind hearted donations for this family. They have worked hard, persevered and still continue to support and be kind to the people around them.
I would like to see them achieve one of their biggest dreams.
Ideally, as Germany is the one of the rarest places that properly treat Lyme Disease and its other known strains, I would like the funds to send Zoe to Germany for proper treatment, but with flights, accommodation and medical costs, it will cost the family $50,000, at the least, I would like them to be able to afford their dream wedding which they have kept pushing back.
I’d be eternally thankful to all those that would donate. It would not only mean my gratitude and those of Zoe and Alex and their children, but to all their family and loved ones who, like myself, wish to see this family together and that their years of kindness and perseverance be rewarded after the many challenges that they had to work through.
Once again, I wish to thank all those that would support this family in it's time of need.
