Surf Scholarships for Girls of Color- Cape Cod

Raised on the Outer Cape, I returned during COVID 19.  Our ocean became my healer after helping my mother die of acute leukemia here in May 2020. This past summer, I had my first surf lesson. Surfing and being held by Mother Nature's womb helped me navigate the ebbs and flows of grief and through the journey I met women surfers that soon created a community of joy, power and healing. Raising me as a single working mother on a teacher's salary in Eastham created a challenging economic situation, and in these waters I reflected on my history and how I wish to open channels to create more racial inclusivity and socio-economic access to the sport on the Outer Cape.
 
To honor International Women's Day this year, I plan to paddle out at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham on Saturday, March 6th around 10:30 a.m. (date/time may shift according to waves- stay tuned). 

With your help, I want to raise $1,000 to offer 3 girls of color (between the ages of 10- 17) on the Cape five surf coaching lessons this summer season which includes wetsuits and board rentals. 

Sugar Surf Cape Cod (a local and fully women owned surf coaching business based in Wellfleet, MA) is stoked to help bring this opportunity for mentorship to fruition. We envision an opportunity to expand this offering in the future to all genders and gender identities.  All proceeds earned will be directed to this effort.
